Tour Description
First stop of the day will be at Slanic Prahova salt mine. Nowadays, this salt mine is still in use but open for visitors as well, featuring a microclimate with natural air-conditioning and constant temperature and atmospheric pressure throughout the year. It is an old salt mine that has been exploited for a long time and today is host of an impressive museum.
One of the chambers is a salt museum named Genesis Hall that hosts the busts in salt of Decebalus, King of Dacia and Traian, the Roman Emperor. There are also other salt sculptures in the mine, such as the bust of the famous Romanian national poet Mihai Eminescu, or a bas-relief of the historical character, Mihai the Brave.Some of the mine chambers were transformed in sports rooms for athletes to train in an ambient room temperature that reaches12 degrees Celsius.
After the salt mine visit, we depart towards Dealu Mare wine region.The wines made in this region- the 45th parallel- are of the same quality as those in Bordeaux or Toscana vineyards, being especially renouned for their richness and sweetness.
We will have the chance to have lunch and taste some finest Romanian wines in the Old Manor of Urlateanu. Not far from Urleateanu Manor there is a splendid museum that hosts an important mix of art and decorative crafts. Visitors can also find a pletora of pieces of ceramics, Romanian carpets, stone-carved columns, rare luxury edition books, 19th century paintings, furniture from various epochs, chandeliers, Oriental and Far East art items, and weapons.
Our wine tour continue with the visit of some famous Romanian wine cellars. The two wineries you will visit on this wine tour display a variety of grapes and winemaking styles. By visiting them you will get insights into making wines and a difference when adding some wines to your shopping list.
We conclude the day with a photo stop at the Stone church from where you can admire not only the whole wine region of Dealu Mare but some remote villages as well. After this wonderful experience we drive back to Bucharest where you are driven back to your hotel.
